Drum lessons

At Muziekacademie Amsterdam, we offer drum lessons for children aged 4 and up.

In our drum lessons designed for young children, we place a strong emphasis on the development of musicianship and listening skills. We believe in the importance of approaching the world of rhythm in its entirety through the practice of different percussions (from Orff instrumentation to typical percussions of the south american world), Playing along with recordings, dancing to  pieces of music for a full understanding of form and rhythm and through the “listen and repeat” method: the student is going to jam, play and practice with the teacher in an interactive one on one drum class. 

For pre-teens and teenagers, our instruction takes a more technical approach, introducing the student to the rudiments of the American drumming language within the study of different genres (rock, pop, jazz, latin…). We use a personalized approach by aligning the lessons with their musical preferences while upholding a strong commitment to building a good theoretical, technical and musical level. Creating a harmonious balance between playing their favorite songs and engaging in technical exercises proves to be an effective method in keeping our students highly motivated and propelling their musical abilities to new heights.

In addition to our individual lessons, we also offer band workshops for kids from the age of 10 where all students, starting at an advanced beginner level, are welcome to join and learn all about playing, rehearsing, and, of course, performing with a band!
