Pāvels Laganovskis

Pāvels Laganovskis is a Latvian pianist, composer, and piano teacher currently based in Amsterdam. He began his musical training at age five with piano and violin, later expanding into organ and composition. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Piano Performance from both the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music, where he studied under Professors Toms Ostrovskis and Juris Kalnciems, and the Russian Gnessin Academy of Music, under Professor Tatiana Zelikman, whose former students include Daniil Trifonov, Konstantin Lifschitz, and Olga Pashchenko. During his undergraduate studies he practiced pedagogy for three years under the supervision of Augusta Malinkovskaja, Ped.D., and completed coursework in psychology, educational psychology, teacher ethics, innovative methods in education, piano playing methodology, and pedagogical internship. He is currently a Master’s student in Classical Music, specializing in Piano Performance, at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, under the supervision of Naum Grubert. His studies are supported by scholarships including the Jacques Vonk Fonds, awarded in 2024.
Laganovskis’s competition record includes the Grand Prix at the 6th International Chopin Competition in Vilnius, first prize at the Inese Galante Talent Competition, and awards from the Latvian Ministry of Culture and the Riga City Council. In his final undergraduate year, he was selected to represent Latvia in a masterclass with Sir András Schiff.
As a performer, he works across solo recital, chamber music, and interdisciplinary collaborations involving contemporary dance and media arts. In 2023 he gave a solo recital at Amsterdam’s Royal Theatre Carré, programming works by Ukrainian composer Valentin Silvestrov. He has performed extensively across the Baltic region, Finland, and Russia. Since 2014 he has also worked as a composer, studying composition with Vitaly Razdorov and later with Maya Verlaak. Laganovskis has been active as a piano educator since 2017. His teaching experience totals six years of private tutoring and two academic years as a secondary school music teacher, at Masterskaya Muzykanta in Moscow and at Innova Private Secondary School in Riga, where he designed and delivered curricula integrating classical theory, performance, and musical literacy. He completed a one-year internship across two music schools in Latvia: Jāzeps Mediņš Riga 1st School of Music and Pāvuls Jurjāns School of Music. His students range in age from 5 to 65 and represent a variety of ethnicities and nationalities; lessons are conducted in Latvian, English, and Russian. In 2024 he gave a masterclass for undergraduate piano students at the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music. He also maintains a private teaching studio, working with advanced pianists and professionals from Latvia, Lithuania, Germany, Austria, and the United Kingdom; his students have prepared for conservatory entrance exams, competitions, and masterclasses, including a performance of Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3. As part of his Master’s program at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, he serves as a teaching assistant in the piano department, mentoring bachelor’s students in technique, repertoire, and interpretation.
His teaching centers on piano technique and hand health, with an emphasis on physical efficiency, injury prevention, and relaxation.
